thanks Fl, its a Leucothoe scarlettii, and yes it is a fantastic plant all year round interest so much variation in colour on the leaves through the different seasons like yourself i love a bit of texture and bold colours. if i remeber rightly i bought off ebay last year, it was only about a £5. so great value and really easy to grow too, it does'nt seem to mind what aspect it's in atall (i've moved it about a bit as could'nt find the right spot to do it justice - but i think i have found it now!lol) although my soil is pretty acidic - so if your garden like Rhododendrons ect... why not give it a try!

I can see everything's really coming up nicely in your yard already. What the beautiful chartuese colored plant with the red tinted tips, it's gorgeous.
