Oh Linda dont know you will need to ask Balcony he is the expert. Is your one a new one or one growing again?

This is growing now ever so fast every day.

It only gets a little water now.

But last year from July it got fed on tomato feed untill Dec then stopped the feed.

And only began to water again in Feb.

Hi Kath, your Amaryllis looks to be doing very well! They do grow very fast once they get started!

Mine are coming out too many at once! On our living room table I added 3 more pots to the 17 already on it! When my wife saw me taking a couple from our bedroom this morning she asked if there was still room on the table for more? Well, perhaps I could squeeze another row of 6 or 7 pots onto the table yet! I have more in bud in the kitchen & 2 bedroom windows!

The main problem with having so many in flower at one time is that they become a bit overwhelming, overpowering! :-(( I'll upload some photos I took today so you can see just how many I have & what I mean by the above!

Davud what do I do with the side shoots now its in its 2yr.

Are these new bulbs growing?

5 Mar, 2015

Yes, Kath, they are offsets that form when the bulb is growing happily! Just like Daffs you can leave them in the same pot for another year or remove them for potting on later. Splitting them up is best done when you want to bring them out of hibernation. You can safely plant several small offsets in one pot to grow on together. I've done that & split them up a year or two later. If you continue to feed them they will grow into big bulbs that will flower after a few years. I think it's best not to let them hibernate till after they have flowered for the first time. Just keep them damp over the winter months & only feed when in active growth.

So David should I restart feeding the Amaryllis as she is in bud mode.

And today she has opened a wee bit.

No, wait till new growth starts. The bulb doesn't need any more at present. It'#s living off its stored energy. Your feeding it now will only lead to fertilizer build up in the compost which could lead to your bulb doing poorly or even dying. So wait till the flowers have died & new growth has started. Feed it with a general fertilizer till the end of May then change to a tomato or rose fertilizer which had more potash needed for bud formation.
