Thanks everyone! I am really pleased that now I can see my white stemmed birches, and as this is the warmest part of the garden, I've planted my prostrate rosemary there, and Skimmia Magic Marlot. Better than the acer which is only pretty in the summer, and was only going to get bigger and take over the whole area.
