Hi Gee, I love these, grew them from seed, they dont get huge like gunnera, a couple of feet high and wide but perennial so no problem.
Karen, how exciting, you can get a whole genre of new plants, brilliant.

I grow a lot of Rheum in my garden, but a friend is giving me a small piece of Gunnera.....I am making a LARGE space for it !!!!

Nice aren't they Linda plus you get the flower. I have gunnera but rheum are much earlier and tougher. My gunnera are still dormant and protected until the frosts are gone but having said that when those huge leaves of gunnera burst, totally stunning.

Have just put in another different Rheum, hope our other is going to surface soon....... love the leaves on this one.

Thought your original one would be up by now DD, fingers crossed. This one is Rheum palmatum 'Tanguticum'. I love them all.

I am now thinking it may not be a Rheum it could be a Rodgersia? it has brown leaves? but I have just put in a Rheum it is all of 1inch high lol in fact it looks a bit sick, was in a pot all winter, poor thing.

I tried a Rheum last year, but it never really got going at all. I think it was just too cold for it. I might try again though...beside my new pond!

Dotty, I've tried to grow Rodgersia several times without success. Hope your Rheum pulls through. I'm growing some more rheum from seed, I can send you a plant if they grow .... You too Karen, if they grow I'll send you one. So cold here and frosty and mine pull through the winters, they dont even get tinged by frosts unlike gunnera.

Thanks Clarice.

Dotty, Karen ..... watch this space. :)

I never have a problem with mine Karen, but there is a Natioal Trust garden 10 miles out of the city and their Rheum suffers badly from cold weather. Most of the Gunner around here that was uncovered after the nice weather was affected by the cold spell, but the new leaves are fine.

Glad ours came up in the end - I may be silly planting it next to the gunnera though
