Liatris Spicata corms

Liatris Spicata corms (Liatris corms)

I bought the small corms in Lidl 50 for £1.29. The larger corms came from a GC prepack 10 for £1.99. I'm looking forward to seeing the difference between the two sizes. The small ones are said to grow 40cms tall in Aug./Sept. The large ones are said to grow to 60cms high in June/July. We shall see. This is a plant from the American prairies. Common names are Blazing Star or Gay Feathers. Unusually the flowers, which the bees adore, open from the top down.

Thats what I thought but did not like to say so. I have not seen the Liatris Alba in the garden centres and I don't do internet shopping so hope I come across them soon.

I've never grown these, but have admired them n other people's gardens. I wonder if I might have a space.........?

They grow on very stout straight stems with strappy leaves up the stems so they do not take up much space. The smaller corms/bulbs are only 1cm in diameter and they are good cut flowers. See the ads. to the right.
