Gymnospermium albertii - 2012 (Gymnospermium albertii)

I saw this little plant on a spring holiday to Kazakhstan a few years ago. It grows to no more than twelve inches from a small tuber. It likes a well-drained soil in sun but with its roots shaded (it was often growing by rocks in the wild). From the flowers, you can see it's a relation of the shrub berberis

Very nice, does it increase to make a small clump?

Plantaholic - I planted one small tuber last August and it has three flowering stems so we shall see. I don't recall seeing any huge clumps in the wild so I don't think it's going to overrun the alpine bed where it's planted
