Bought as cut and come again lettuce from Lidl and said to last for 2 weeks these are already 2 weeks from transplanting and I expect them to give me salad leaves until the end of the season. 99p well spent.

I never find any plants in Lidl - just the odd dreary dry clematis! It looks health now, I would be eating it already - it looks yummy!

They look great nothing like home grown veg and salad.

We have had the odd leaf off it already. You will find this in the fruit and veg. section Aneagillis, thanks Sixpence I agree it does taste better when it is freshly picked. I had decided I was only having home grown potatoes this year but I had to have these and I also bought some (9) tomato plants at the garden centre which I am growing in bags of multipurpose compost. They were reduced to 3 for a £1 which is another way of keeping ahead of the cost of living rises. LOL.

What a bargain hope your toms grow well for you thats how I use to grow mine in bags, but since op I use hanging baskets now.

I tried hanging baskets but you have to be on hand to water - no days off, so I have mine outside in large bags which are well waterd and hopefully will stand the odd day of neglect. Fingers crossed. They are all small fruiting varieties.

Yes you do at least once a day in baskets in bags they should be ok mine alway s were and I did nt water every day only when I seen the leaves drooping lol and I had wonderful crops. Yes I had tumberlers in the baskets.

They taste so much better than the shop bought ones and no miles of travel and I know what they have been fed on. I go round the supermarket sniffing to see if the tomatoes are any good. They have a distinctive smell if they are tasty. Usually from Scottish stock although grown in Spain, Holland and the Channel Islands. I do the same with strawberries. There is nothing like fresh strawberries.

I agree they do have a smell to them and strawberries I ll only buy british grown from supermarkets if I do.

I wish my Lidl had this sort of thing - it would be ideal for keeping my tortoises going throughout the summer :)

I'm surprise they do not have it as every Lidl I have been in has it. It is on the fresh fruit and veg section and maybe it does not look as if it is growing but it transplants well. Maybe it is sold out depending on how many the manager orders. I could let you have some dandelions LOL.

I think I may be getting a supple of dandelions, Scotsgran, it has been like snow here today with the 'fairies' flying about :)

19 May, 2011

This last wee while OH and I decided to dead head any dandies in the garden. We have collected up to 600 in a day. It would be like snow if they all flew about.

I must admit I let a few dandelions grow in the garden for the torties, Scotsgran, but there are hundreds along the lanes around the village. A great supply of free food from the traffic free areas :)

They look every bit as good as the swathes of daffodils planted by the council and they flower all summer. And free food for torties as well what more could we ask for.
