2nd season gardener!

I am a 2nd season gardener, well 3rd season technically. My 1st season consisted of chucking down some Fennel and Pumpkin seeds!

I adore Fennel and thought Pumpkin would be fun to grow. Needless to say nothing much happened, apart from giving the birds something to munch on.

Last year, I took much more of an interest. Digging over ground which the Pumpkin vines would try to use as a platform to take over the world.

I made a raised bed roughly 2.4m by 1.2m, which I have to say I was pretty impressed with. After all it passed the kick test! :)

I chucked in a fair amount of seeds in the space I had, Carrots, Dwarf Beans, Peas, Lettuce, Parsnips, Purple Brussel Sprouts, Spring Onions (which didn’t come to much after being murdered by some oriental Mustard Salad.)

In the Autumn I tried my hand at growing 75 Onions in a different space, thanks to the awesome October weather they were doing extremeley well until they were literally butchered by the men we had come in to repair the fence.

This was some what of a sore point for me (in truth it still is.) I seriously considered writing a strongly worded letter of complaint. However, as they had already been paid I decided to sulk indoors for winter.

On a happier note, in the raised bed I planted 10 Elephant Garlic cloves that autumn as well which look to be doing fantastic. I also planted 42 ‘actual’ garlic cloves in pots, these too look to be doing great.

My next post will concentrate solely on my love affair with strawberries, with pictures to follow as the garden develops.

Welcome to goy. You seem to be off to a good start having understood that what grows is down to what it is grown in. Hope to see some photos soon.

I really think workmen are 'plant-blind'. When they come here I make sure I tell them where things are, and I move everything that can be moved, well out of their way.

I also grow fennel. I don't like the taste, but I love the smell lol
