Baby Doves Update

After my week off i went back to work and the first thing i did was to look for the baby doves ….Yeeahhh there they were all safe and sound walking around they garden ..They can’t fly just flap a bit and move but they are very near to flying .
Unfortunately i forgot my camera …
So the next day i took my camera and went to look and to my dismay there was a pile of tiny feathers and only 1 baby left…o(((((

But when i came to check on him Friday there was even more bad news ..
No babies left both gone both taken by a kestrel …Oh dear ..o((((((

How tragic you must be gutted, We have them too, they've nested here for years. I don't think we've lost one yet but yesterday I was going to get their tea when a Sparrow Hawk swooped. The Dove had spotted it and flew off hotly pursued by the hawk. I shouted and clapped and the hawk did a left turn and disappeared. A close shave. I've never known there to be so many birds of prey, we have Sparrow Hawks, Kestrels, Buzzards, even Peregrines at Beeston Castle a mile away. Then there's the horrible Magpies. It's a wonder we've any garden birds left. Collard Doves enhance any garden, hope you have more.

What a sad ending :o( I used to have a sparrow hawk which "visited" my yard and I have seen it pluck sparrows out of the ivy on the top of the wall. I know it's nature, but it's really upsetting to see. Doves are beautiful birds, such a shame.
