Busy Day

Our local ‘knife, fork and spoon’ gardening club had its coffee morning and plant sale today and David & I were, as usual I.C. the plant stall. We spent a couple of hours yesterday evening setting up and then were back in the hall this morning for 9am to be ready for the doors opening at 10am. The plant tables were groaning with veggie plants, bedding plants and some wonderful perennials including hostas, candelabra primulas, lilies, irises, hellebores… the list goes on and on.
The most expensive plants were £3 from there they ranged down to £1… or even 2 for a £1 :-)
When the doors opened a sea of bodies headed for the plant table… and, along with our two trusty helpers we had a hard time coping for the first half hour. By then more than half the plants had vanished like snow off a dyke and we had time to put up the plants which had been sitting under the table. By 11.30am we had sold every last plant – well okay I did give four little girls a sunflower each and tell them to let me know how tall they grew.
We had a fun filled, if very tiring morning, and the coffers of the local garden club are now overflowing.

Two for a pound was a really good deal but meant we sold the mountain of tomato plants we so things like bedding geraniums... I love plants sales and alpine plant show even if I do feel like a piece of wilted lettuce at the end of the day!

Yes, plant sales are great....
I love to find alpine plants and perennials...
I'm sure David can find a better plant with which to compare you, rather than a piece of lettuce....
How about it, David... which plant is Moon grower ? Lol.

Well done on a busy morning's work! I love hunting around at plant sales...you never know if you might find that "little gem" of a plant you've been hunting for ages for...

i had a table at our village garden mart today and had a successful day too. I took photos before i started and the unsold ones are going to our local hospice plant sale. all proceeds go their, as they were fantastic when my friend went there for respite care.
you often get some unusual plants at these events.

We regularly put plants into sales for hospices and the like... it is so easy to support a charity in this way.

Terra, you are just trying to get me into trouble :-0). By following the 'wilted lettuce' theme I am very likely to get into places I would much rather not go.
Looking out of the window right now I see Rhododendron delicatisima just coming into flower and can see a remarkable likeness to Mg, at least from the hairline upwards!
