Contrary To What I Have Heard.....

about the weather in the UK, I have had better luck over here. My garden is about at its peak now so here is a look at it……

That sign on the wall was my wife’s favorite, though I never new quite what it meant…here are your daisies Cyndy and they still aren’t saying a word…

a while ago I realized that vegetables can be an attractive addition to the garden too and I asked GOY members for their suggestions. Well, I have made a modest start to this by growing a cabbage. I think that this was a success and I will be adding more veggies next year. This cabbage looks like a Hosta that has been to the muscle mill……

It is July and in the USA we have what is called “Christmas In July” in which retail stores get a bit of a jump on the season by offering sales on gift items. As you see my rescue dog Emma is getting ready for the real season to come by adding to the Santa’s little helpers population…..

I hope that you enjoyed the little trip around my garden ……and now….THE END

Celebrating this week L'strife, we have had sunshine every day and the flowers are looking a lot happier, not as many as you though still more green than anything else but we are getting there at long last, your garden is an absolute picture, I have some of Cyndys daisies here but mine are a bit floppy because they took a battering, still pretty though for all that.
Emma is so cute, looking a bit bemused, I think she is unsure about Santa's helpers appearing early, lol..
I did enjoy seeing your lovely garden, thankyou for showing me around....

Your garden looks beautiful, Loosestrife. "Daisies won't tell" [sic] was the name of the first scent I ever used when I was a girl. I don't understand it, either!

Thank you all. For the past few years I have been trying to garden in the style of Hywel's garden and I think that I am getting there. For the first time ever I have been using weed preventer and spot killing weeds with roundup (getting old and lazy)... it has made quite a difference.

Thank you Seaburngirl. The annual Japanese Beetle attack started a few days ago. I find the most effective way to eliminate much damage is to hand pick them off the plants and with my two fingers...CRUNCH!!:)

I liked the monarda too, and the hosta border leading ot the gate. You have a wonderful colourful selection of plants there Loosetrife.

The garden is superb, so much colour and interest it's difficult to pick a favourite! Love the seat, the begonia mounds, the monarda, all the extra ornamental highlights and of course the daisies! You must spend hours in the garden. The answer to the 'what won't they tell' is still a bit obscure, but seems to come from this 1912/3 song.

Your cabbage looks great and they do the lovely shaped and coloured ones, but they wouldn't last in our garden - too many pigeons! I decided that as we didn't have a veg. plot I would grow the rhubarb in the flower bed, after all we grow Hosta's, Gunnera and such like, why not rhubard? OH then decided that he wasn't that keen on rhubarb after all, so now it is more or less ornamental!
