Well… what a weekend. We have gone great guns this weekend! Hubby finished digging over the left hand side of the plot, and last night I went down and did some more planting!
So, yesterday I managed to plant:
Carrots
Parsnips
Lettuces (mixed)
radishes
spinach
purple sprouting broccoli
and finished the flower bed at the front with gladioli, and mixed dahlias!
Hubby also put down paving slabs as stepping stones for the pathways, and bark chipped in between with the free chipping that are left at the entrance to the allotments.
My aim for this week is to get the strawberry plants in before we go away on hols!
Its coming along nicely!!

Hi lollyxx - you and hubby have been working incredibly hard. My wife and I took on an allotment for the first time in last summer last year- so we have had a lot of time to be preparing the plot and that's been hard enough. (It's my wife who takes the lead on the allotment while I'm in charge of the flowers in the garden). Our soil is fairly heavy but has been well-worked by previous holders, but it does take a while to heat up - so we have chitted potatoes, sprouting onions sets in trays and garlic we have brought through the winter in a cold frame all waiting to be planted - hopefully next weekend. maybe we can compare notes? Anyway, good luck with your allotment and welcome to GOY - it's a great site.

Thanks that would be great.... I am so new to this!! I have planted a lot of stuff, taking my lead from other plot holders and from the books / sites I've been on... I'm not sure what will grow and what won't but hey - we'll see!! I've planted my potatoes, they had huge sprouts on already! I have earthed them up a lot to keep them warm, so fingers crossed. Although we've had some frost since, they have been quite light ones so hoping they haven't done too much damage!
I need to invest in a cold frame / some cloches for next winter I think, they would be very helpful I think!

Lolly you have been a very busy girl and no doubt you and your family will be rewarded later on this year with plenty of veg to add to your meals and I'm sure they will taste far better than anything you can buy in the supermarkets nt to mention how cheap things are to grow.Hel.xxx.
