Good bye to my oak tree saplings.

Two years ago I joined a team of Glasgow gardeners growing oak trees.
It was for the Glasgow Children’s Woodland at Cathrin Braes.
Each primary school in the city has been given a designated plot and this weekend children are planting the trees we have grown.
It is a wonderful project to be involved with.

such a worth while project and one that is all the more special as we will never see the mature trees. lets hope some of the children get the conservation bug and carry on the good work.

My neighbor has a couple mighty tall oak trees on her property and they drop acorns on her rooftop all day and all night, sometimes they hit the windows. What a racquet it makes esp when she's try to sleep. Then the squirrels skirmish for the spoils. They sound like bloody murder. Good idea to let these grow out in the woodland. Sounds like a wonderful & rewarding project Linda. Everybody wins.

There is a big educational setup for the children. Oak trees have a long tap root when they start to grow so saplings have to be grown in pots as you can’t dig them up without damaging them.
That is why they needed so many volunteers.

It's great to see that your "baby" Oaks have been planted out now, Linda! 😃 Like others have already said, I hope that a few of the children will get the growing bug & continue with the efforts to plant trees long into the future! 😃

That's good, it's nice for children to be involved with plants.
Oak trees are majestic :) I've got one sapling I saved from the road and another that has self seeded into my garden.

They are several years old. One is in the ground and one is in a pot.
