Blackbirds

The blackbirds in my garden are on to their third nest in the leylandi tree, they abandoned their first nest the Magpies got the second one and as of today their third one was still in use I also have collared doves nesting there as well.

How lovely. Do you have two blackbird couples or does one make more than one nest?

Well if they are different couples with a nest each in the same area, there will be big trouble. A few years ago, we had a blackbird murder in our garden.
One nest was in our garden, and the other was just over the fence which had a large Pyracantha on it. We knew there was a lot of aggression going on, but one day bird no. 2 sat on the fence watching the comings and goings of "our" parents and when both were absent for a short time, it dived in and came out with a baby and dropped it from a height as it flew.
Nature is not all sweetness and light, is it?

You are right Mad there is nest building going on in my back garden Blackbirds again but the Magpies are having none of it , If Mrs Blackbird would be quiet then the magpies would not find her.

Mavis, why don't you tell her?

We've just had a commotion outside,there is a male blackbird showing a lot of interest in the nest with 4 eggs in :( Mum isn't there I hope he doesn't tip them out.

Believe me Mad I have tried ! I have even been out and chased the magpies in the hope that she gets the message,mr blackbird is not much better as he keeps dive bombing the magpies.
