It has to be yew, wonderful yew !
Unless of course “yew” guys think differently ? ( and can be bothered to reply once again ! )
I was riding my bike yesterday as is my wont, some 6 miles from home when I went past what I thought was the perfect hedge along the front of a house. It was about 4ft tall, 2 ft wide – and there was a chap on the drive.
I screeched to a stop and had a word with him. He told me it was taxus baccata, easy and quite quick to grow – almost a foot a year, easy to keep in check, that I should plant 5 plants a metre and that planting from now until January would be ideal.
The only thing I didn’t ask was whether to buy bare rooted plants or in pots. When I got home I happened to be reading the daily paper and Peter Seebrook just happened to just happened to be writing about, and recommending yew. A remarkable co-incidence !
Your opinions would be very welcome( including bare roots or pots ), and if you say "definitely not " then it’s back to the drawing board for me !
