A Walk in Fish Hoek - September 2008

Nasturtiums on a vacant plot. The round leaves are tasty.

Spring flowers on unowned ground

Orange Pincushion Proteas

Yellow Pincushion Proteas

Unplanned poppies stake their claim.

Bokbaai Vygies

This nasturtium patch is three minutes’ walk from home.

Next, we’ll take a closer look at it. The leaves are looking ragged – they will disappear in summer, to reappear in autumn.

Pincushion Proteas growing wild.

A Protea seen on a vacant plot along the road.

I like the proteas very much. They looked grand, and Oscar aswell :o))
Last year someone on GoY persuaded me to taste a nasturtium leaf. I had never tried them before. I must say I found it had no taste at all.

Those plants called Bokbaai Vygies look like what 'we' call Delosperma, i have them growing here.

i regularly used to eat nasturium leaves and flowers as a child. They had a mild peppery flavour.

Lovely photos and i am envious of the proteas.
