Licuala peltata 'Sumawongii' - Sumawong Palm

Licuala peltata 'Sumawongii' - Sumawong Palm (Licuala peltata 'Sumawongii' - Sumawong Palm)

My Sumawong Palm is loving it growing under the shade structure in the front yard. This Malaysian palm is one of the most beautiful palms in the world. Photo taken Oct. 31, 2011.

I've read sometimes this palm can grow indoors. However, it really needs heated, humid greenhouse conditions to grow well. I keep my palm under the shade structure in the front yard. It needs semi-shade, as full sun will burn the fronds.

delonix, i invite you to my yard, I want this plant but maybe it wont grow in my yard...who knows. If it will, I want to try it. I am in San Diego, north park area. I dont freeze and rarely go under 40 Degrees. Give me a shout.

Licuala peltata 'Sumawongii' and Licuala ramsayi are perfectly hardy in all of San Diego. They just need semi-shade and lots of water.

great, i need to have you over. My garlic vine is actually blooming....It is such a young plant...nice dark lavender blue/purple flowers. I think it is barely 8 inches tall and apparently blooms very young. I am excited to see what it might do when larger.
