Lavender love.

Lavender love. (Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender))

I’ve several lavenders in the garden and even though they are cheap and simple, I do love them.
This one was chopped in August and flowered again last month. I love the deep purple colour.

So do I Kate. I love anything to do with lavender, a few drops of essential oil, when I've cleaned the bin, diluted on my cloth for wiping kitchen surfaces and it's a great antiseptic too..

Smells so clean and fresh doesn’t it! I used a lavender scented cleaner in my washing machine this morning..lovely!

I love Lavender too Kate and have quite a few bushes scattered over our small garden and the butterflies and bees love them. I have just clipped them back a bit today. I took some cuttings several weeks ago to start off some new plants as the others are getting a bit woody now.

They are such a lovely addition aren’t they, Linda! I love to hear the bees buzzing round them. I often think about taking cuttings..is this the time then to do it? I have no idea!

I usually take cuttings end July, beginning August from the thicker growing shoots that aren't flowering. Have a go next year Kate. I cut the shoot to about 5 or 6 inches, take off half the foliage at the bottom and plant that into a pot of compost. I place two or three to a pot, then water in. Perhaps other people have their own way of doing cuttings, but this works for me.

Thanks Linda, that’s great advice! I’ll definitely be trying this next year!

I have started to keep the large yoghurt pots and lids, as I thought they would make decent pots for cuttings next year providing I put a hole in the bottom of the pot. The lids turned the other way catch the water in the bottom. I'm going to have a go anyway.

Sounds a very good plan!
