I planted this in the main bed this summer. Here it is this evening, despite a couple of near frosts. Amazing!

Still outdoors Sticki! I've decapitated one stem for a cutting, and will chop the rest up this weekend for more.

This is a stunner Meanie...:>)

It's a lovely plant! Amazing it's flowering so well so late, must be quite a protected spot?

Thanks Moti!
Been blooming like this for a while Sticki - can't believe that I've not shown it off before now!

Nor me!

It's flowering almost as well as mine, now. LOL!
Mine did get burned in the horrible, horrible heatwaves we've had over the last couple of weeks.
10 Oct, 2012
I did expect overnight temps of 5°c to cause them to drop.
10 Oct, 2012
That's not cold enough to effect this plant...not unless it's going to stay at 5°C for many, many hours.
We're expecting unusually cool weather tomorrow (only 70°F/21°C) with rain, then another big heatwave is heading our way for the weekend through all of next week.

Probably as long as 8 hours I guess.............
11 Oct, 2012
Wow! That's a long time! I guess that could possibly do some damage.

Doesn't seem to have!
It's slowly getting sliced up for next years stock now.

Bought ours in yesterday, and like yours still flowering it's head off, so you are taking cuttings now then, any tips to pass on to OH, it is getting rather lanky......

Meanie:
That's a good idea. I cut mine into pieces for cuttings every couple of years. I had one in my front yard for a year, it started declining last summer. It does better in the ground in winter than summer. Go figure!

DD - Slice up into sections that have at least three growth points (where leaves were). Pot up in an airy mix that has been sterilized by pouring boiling water through an hour or two earlier. Keep two growth points above the compost. Place in a warm and light spot. 80% strike rate...............
How do you do yours Delonix?
Maybe it dislikes the baked ground in summer - isn't it a forest floor dweller? Mine is shaded from the worst of the UK sun!!!!

What sun Meanie? thanks for the info will pass it on to OH.....

Meanie:
I just cut mine into random pieces and stick them in any soil I have, in a gallon pot. I put them under a semi-shaded area along the wall on the side of the house.
I do usually throw out the rooted portion of the plant, though. Sometimes it'll regrow and other times it just sulks. You have to experiment.

Pretty much the same as me, except that I'm a little OCD about it!

I understand. Your plants have to be grown indoor.
All mine stay outside all year. I can't imagine growing this plant indoors...as I never have.
