Illicium simonsii (close-up) - 2020

Illicium simonsii (close-up) - 2020 (Illicium simonsii)

Woodland shrub for acid soils, growing to at least six feet mine has reached eight feet in eight years. Although evergreen, it does tend to shed some of its foliage at the same time as it flowers, detracting from the display somewhat

Beautiful Andrew and I know this sounds stupid but it looks like it should smell nice too.

I have very little sense of smell, so I must go on what other sources say.
Although the International Dendrology Society says it has "a strong fragrance," none of the nurseries in the UK selling it mention any scent at all. Roy Lancaster, who came across it in the wild before it was introduced, also fails to mention any perfume
