Clematis 'Hagley Hybrid'

Clematis 'Hagley Hybrid' (Clematis 'Hagley Hybrid')

As this Clematis grows through the Berberis, I can't get to it to prune it! (not without damaging myself, anyway!)

Shame that you have to Spritz as what a beautiful combination reminds me of turkish delight dark chocolate with a pink centre.

Nice thought, BB. I don't prune it at all - that Berberis is lethal! The Akebia quinata is also growing all over it...it can do what it likes! The prickles are worse than any other shrub, I think. It always gets me when I try to weed under it. Nasty thing...apart from the colour of the leaves, that is!

Well this one bad but the most lethal is the green variety cant think of the official name ..the one with 2" thorns that seem to puncture any glove.Pyracantha has its moments too .

That's beautiful Spritz.

Wonderful combo Spritz, the Berberis is really bringing out the colouring in the centre of that Clematis - expertly done!

I wish I could take the credit - but I found it growing in that bed and just 'trained' it up into the Berberis. I don't know how the seedling Clematis got there. This is its first year of flowering! :-)

Looks lovely however it got there,....maybe a bird? - do they eat clematis seeds?..... mind you they do get about a bit anyway because of the big puffy seedheads they have, if you leave them off they do fly all around the garden.

What a lovely combination. I wouldn't have thought of training a clematis through berberis. Hmmmmmm! I must add this to my shopping list.

Well, Keithsmum, I wouldn't have thought of it either, but as the baby clematis appeared, it seemed to be a good idea...which worked!

It certainly did. I've now got Hagley Hybrid on the shopping list!
