Hi Angela, muxh as I would love to see plants crossing the pond and ending up in our gardens stateside, the department of agriculture doesn't support such generosity. There are strict limitations on importation of plants and the dirt they come in. We cannot even drive potted plant, bulbs or anysuch thing over the border from Canada. Sorry to be a wet blanket.

Thanks Flcrazy, the woman i bought it from said that it is a new dwarf variety that only grows to approx 18" but my plant was missing a lable, and i can't remeber what she said it was called, its not in any of the books i have, which would make sense if it is a new one, my books are all over 5 years old, lol, so i tell you what, a favour for a favour - if you really want one of these i may be able to help you out. i bought this one off my local market, it's only a small plant, so would be easy to post. they had loads of them last week when i bought it. living so close to London a lot of the local markets get plants from New covent garden wholesale market, everything comes in direct from holland so we are usually first to get anything new into the UK i think it was only about £2 - £3 to buy so if you like next time i go (proberly wednesday next week) i will see if she has anymore, and get one for you. i have no idea what it would cost to send to you, but it would be easy enough to find out if you send me your address on a private message. but i do sell on ebay in the uk quite a bit so i could wrap it up well enought to survive the journey. and i have a paypal account so it would be easy for you to send me what ever it costs to send to you. let me know if you would like me to try and get you one. regards Angela.

Looks like Weigela 'My Monet'. It's a dwarf variety that gets 12 to 18 inches tall. I've been waiting for them to show up in the local nurseries around here for two years now !

It was the same story with mine this year, masses of buds which opened briefly turning the bush pink, before fading all too quickly. It was great while it lasted, but ........

Must have been the weather! I was thrilled that the lilac hung on for so long, but sadly disappointed in the weigela! It made quite a difference in the hummingbirds too, as they usually are abundant when it is in flower and are rare this year : ( Oh well maybe it will reflower later - it usually does but only a few blooms here & there - dare I hope for more? Lol!

My Weigela bushes did the same Grammazoo. They budded, flowered and were gone quickly.

They stay dark, which is nice after the blooms have faded, as it still adds a bit of colour.

I have had a few around, both male & female but not really frequent visits yet. Once our weather decides what to do (if ever) maybe they will visit more regularly...

Beautiful Wiegela.
Have you noticed that wine red is cropping up everywhere.. Peter's pics from the Chelsea had iris and lupin in that colour...and I just bought an astilbe this morning that is that deep maroon red... it's a trend!!

I used Miracle Grow fertilizer last year but nothing this year at all - maybe it thrives on neglect like my houseplants!

It's still trying to hang on Mikec ! I havn't had the windows open for a few weeks now, and it's in the low 40's at night and barely makes it out of the 50's during the day ! Actually it's kinda nice.............many of the spring wildflowers are still blooming where as they'd usually be melted from the heat by now.

My remarks on this shrub seem to have caused confusion.
It will take sun or part shade quite happily. To my mind, the flower colour and variegation look better out of full sun but that is just a personal preference

I have a young one from a cutting last year - they are really healthy good value plants. I was wondering whether to plant it in shade or not, so thanks for the pointer, Andrew!
