erm not quite sure if it classed as a succulent, it does look like one but the leaves within this rossette are more like scales if that makes sense, i can tell you what it is tho, this is a Sempervivum or Houseleek, i have several this one is called 'Royal Ruby', and it is fully hardy in the UK. but if it is particually succulents that you like then check out my Echeveria collection, if succulents are your thing these are simply a must have!

yes the main rossette which it is flowering from will die after it flowers, but fear not, it should send out off shoots before it does which will each make a new plant, so you can end up with quite a nice little clump.

Legend has it that your house will never be struck by llightning if you have these in your garden! They are lovely and seem to be able to grow anywhere. I'd guess an easy plant for a beginner.

My girlfriend planted different types of Hens and Chicks, as well as cactus's in an old drawer. This reminds me of it. You did a great job on this pot. I am going to copy it this summer! I have never heard Hens and Chicks referred to as Rubin.
