Hamamelis are woodland plants - it sounds like your poorly one just can't cope ith the sunny position. Try scratching the bark of the main stem low down - if it still shows green, it is still alive but would really need moving to a shady position; if it is brown, I'm afraid it is beyond hope

This does smell fantastic. i also want a red/orange one, it's on my list of wants. I usually wait till they have finished flowering, then the garden centre's usually sell them off cheap.

Lovely close-up, majeeka. My camera is still being mended, and I can't get used to the old one!

Yes, I think so. Lovely, isn't it. I have now planted a variegated ivy behind it to show off the colour more from a distance. Great improvement, even while the ivy is a baby! I'll take its photo again tomorrow if I can.

thanks, - i am really pleased with it i have'nt been able to locate the label, but i think it is either the one that i said, or the same as yours, it is defo more red than orange - what do you think this pic is clearer than the others - is it like yours?

Andrew, you are quite right about it needing a lighter backgound to show it off. As it is against a grey wall, I might have to grow a light variegated ivy up behind it, I think. I shall wait until it's full out and have another think. It's beautiful close up, though!

ha-ha! it's opened! looks great spritz! - much brighter colour than mine! mine is up against a dark green fence and it catches your eye from the patio or house. but i don't have a huge garden so it is'nt that far away anyway.

Do you find the flowers of this show up at a distance; I planted 'Pallida' (pale yellow flowers) against a dark background for this reason. I guess a blue-grey conifer would make a suitable background to this one or any of the orange-flowered varieties

Do you know its name? Mine (just planted) is called 'Rubin' and it will have red flowers like yours. It's in bud at the moment.
