Yes, I don't know why it's called Ned Kelly. But the label was with it, so I think it was the right name. Well, an Aussie icon, Ned, and so is the Grevillea. Guess that could be the connection, although not all are named after people. Milky what kind do you have? Love to see your picture too. Thank you all for commenting.

Can't see any resemblance to Ned Kelly at all. Far too pretty.

No Greenthumb, they have no smell whatsoever. I think it is the colour the bees and birds go for.

I few months back a posted pictures from an art show. Anyways the artist gets much inspiration from flora. This flower very much reminds me of this huge neon installation that he had set up outside his show. I 'll have to see if I can't find a photo.

Ni, it didn't. It looks a bit like those Grevillea's, but are a different species. It has no scent, yet the bees seem to like it.

Hi Lori, these birds are beautiful. All colours of the rainbow of course and their coat is mainly green, the chest has the colours. They look lovely as a contrast against the creamy Grevillea's. I get all sorts of birds, and they make a lot of noise too. Thanks for your story about the robins there.

My friend, who lived in the province of Quebec at that time, told me a story of watching the robins, drunk on wild cherry windfall...trying to fly into the trees and missing the branches....I have a lovebird whose colours are peachy pink to red face...green back with blue tail feathers...but he's not as colourful and the lorikeets..lol. must be lovely to see these birds in the natural habitat.

I think they would be. This particular one also grows in moderate climates and can even stand a little frost. You find these all over Australia, but different species in different area's. This is an interesting site and you can see many different species of grevillea's. There are even ground covers. http://asgap.org.au/gall4cb.html

I am sure that I've seen Grevilleas over here in very sheltered gardens. I don't know if they are the same as this one, though.

And you know that each of those closed tentacles opens like those few at the bottom. At the end are the stamens. Birds and bees just love them, also butterflies.
