There are about 30 species of dahlia and about 20,000 cultivars! Originally these eye-catching perennials were from the mountainous areas of Mexico and Central America.
They flower from mid-summer to mid-autumn and come in an amazing variety of shapes - from tiny pompons to giant decorative forms.
Most dahlias derive from Dahlia pinnata or Dahlia coccinea and the species name is often ommited.

Thanks, they are very addicting. This dahlia is named 'peaches and cream'.

We started to include Dahlias last year and are really hooked on them. This is a lovely variety. Will try to obtain it.
I love the light catching the flower.

A lovely photo and dahlias are wonderful for adding colour and texture to a mixed border or colour themed area. We are using Dahlias this year for the 'wow factor'. Congratulations on all your photos- there are some stunning shots.
