I just checked the Genus for Gorse (Ulex) and this plant - and they belong to the same family! Leguminosae in latin. So, yes, Amy, they are related!

However, as Gilli says, this one is a nice shrub - it doesn't have ANY prickles!

Well spotted, Amy. We live and learn, don't we.

Coronilla glauca flowers usually in spring - march-may time. It is hardy, evergreen, scented, very flowery and fairly quick growing. Sounds like an ideal plant! Probably takes a couple of years to flower from seed - but it's not often found. Mine came from Spain as a small plant a few years ago. It grows easily from cuttings

Yes, Amy. it is. It's not completely hardy, though, so it needs a sheltered site. It flowers from now into the winter and in the spring - and also produces a few flowers in the summer!
