I had a large clump at the last house so just dug up a few to bring with me and start again.

Lovely! And you'll be pleased to hear that I now have my own little colony - with the hope that they will spred next year!

Well, I have three Fragarias, one 'Lipstick', one smaller with white flowers (don't know its name) and one called 'Pink Panda'. Last year, 'Pink Panda' produced three lovely tasty berries! They were about half-an-inch long, so bigger than wild strawberries but smaller than the other sort. They are ornamental plants really, so I was surprised. The books say 'rarely produce fruit'.

This time you are wrong, sadly, Lori! I wish I had wild strawberries too, but the leaf is from that Fragaria 'Lipstick' which has sent runners under the tree...and out north south and east as well! Little thug - lucky I like it!

Congrats!! love these wonderful little white bells and the smell is heavenly...I notice the strawberry leaf beside it...I have used wild strawberry as a ground cover in my front garden for years now...found a clump in a field near my home and transplanted it to a sunny south slope in the back yard...it took hold and spread so rapidly that I could not believe it...took some to the front garden and it did the same there...likes full sun but does ok in shade too... it's in bloom right now and the birds love the berries when they form and ripen...I've had one, now and then, they are VERY strawberry flavourful...nice things really do come in small packages.lol.

Thanks Andrew - now I know what to look for. This photo reminds me of the lilies-of the valley growing in the garden when I was a child! Memories, memories.
