No, I don't or I don't recognise them. I just pull up all the weeds in that jungle, which come through the mulch nevertheless. But this Cassia in the picture is not mine, it was in the park. But I do have two as well, but they don't flower as abundantly.

Marguerite,

Such a beautiful Cassia fistula! I really like this Cassia...I'm surprised it's not that widely grown here. I have some seedlings I'm going to sell in the Spring.

Do have seedling plants popping up all over your yard from this tree?

This is one of the Cassias that can easily naturalize. Usually, when you have a large tree like this you have millions of seedling popping up every where.

I think I've seen a lot of those today. Unfortunately we were driving and couldn't stop. Lots of gardens and along the road I saw some like that.

Marguerite:

I'm glad you identified your C. fistula. I know it is difficult to identify small trees and plants...because smaller trees and plants look very different from the mature plants/trees...especially in regards to tropical plants.

Terratoonie:

One day, I may write a book about tropical trees and plants. I've studied and gone to school for many years to learn about plants...mostly tropical plants though. Also, I've belonged over the years to many horticulture societies and have many plant enthusiast friends.

Hello Delonix, I have had a closer look today and the flowers indeed have those upward antlers. I have a big Cassia fistula in the front garden with much bigger leaves. I have compared the leaves, ovate and opposite, just the same for the two trees. This one is a small tree, only about 3.5 high, whilst the big one in the front is at least twice as high. I will be satisfied now to call it Golden showers or Cassia fistula, as I do have a label of that one in my collection, but unfortunately I cannot remember from which tree I dug it up, lol. I know for sure the big one is the right one, I had one in my garden in Darwin as well. The seedpods are big, long and round, and seeds inside are in their little chambers. When they dry inside the pod they rattle. They have a very strong pungent smell, almost tamarind like.

Delonix1 ~
You have an amazing knowledge on trees.
Are you planning to write a book about them?
It would be very popular !

I think you're correct it's Cassia fistula...or maybe it's a hybrid between C. fistula and another common yellow Cassia (possibly C. leptophylla?) I say this because the flowers do resemble Cassia leptophylla which is very commonly grown here as a street tree.
