Genus: Campanula

It takes its name from their bell-shaped flowers (Campanula is Latin for little bell). The species include annual, biennial and perennial plants, and vary in habit from dwarf arctic and alpine species under 5 cm high, to large temperate grassland and woodland species growing to 2 m tall.

They are actually a deeper purple than this , but they come up just when other things are finishing so it is a good balance.

Another plant for my list...This looks similar to a blue that I have..but the petioles are longer..and the flowers have a pronounced droop...don't have the latin unfortunately...it was a gift.

does it have thorns? I've had berberis before and was even so brave as to move the plants from an established location...as I recall the spine tips break off and leave little 'slivers' under the skin...It's a good deterrent in traffic areas...
cotoneaster has berries and is evergreen,

I am pretty sure that this is Berberis, not boxwood. I did not plant it, but the leaves turn bright red and fall off in winter, so it's a pretty safe bet to assume that's what it is.
