Abies is genus of evergreen conifers commonly called Firs. Unlike other members of the pine family Firs have needle shaped leaves.

Growing conifers in pots for any length of time is generally not a good idea for many reasons. By your remarks about watering the plant , its my guess the problem is either under or over watering. If you want to keep the plant assuming it is still alive, plant it in the ground. A photo would have been a bit more helpfull.

No, I won't laugh, once again I think it is the silvery undersides to the needles that might be giving it that effect. All Abies have a silver reverse to their needles.
