Veg garden 2011

The veg garden gave mixed results this year (2011). The courgette crop failed to take off at all. The nights were too cold for the plants to thrive. The brassicas were also a bit of a mixed bag until the warmer weather at the end of June. The beans and peas cropped well until the August gales. Oh yes, after I had lifted the early onions in July I planted carrots which all came up. I then put fleece over the carrot foliage in case there were carrot root-fly about. Unfortunately the fleece kept the birds out of the bed and the slugs and snails polished off the carrots in no time at all :o(. Despite the above we still munched our way through lots of delicious veg...so not too bad.

Every year we have a different combination of successes and failures. I suppose if it ever went right for everything then the following year we should not bother as it would be the year when everything failed....
