Timber falling!

At approximately 3.00am we were suddenly woken by a peculiar nose!.....It was a breezy night but by no means strong winds.....OH went outside with torch to investigate but to no avail.......come the morning we were woken up by loud wood cutting.This was the view from the bedroom window.....a very old oak tree had collapsed.Thinking back the sound we heard was just that.....a walloping sound of heavy wood.Luckily the cows in that field escaped unharmed.......I think the tree must have been hit by lightening a few days earlier and this weakened it.Have always been concerned about the height of this tree grouping.It was a beautiful oak tree with,as you can see from the photo,a very wide girth.

Oh what a sad sight,M.land..but thank goodness it happened at the time it did..especially for the Cows..always sorry to see majestic trees meet their end..
