What a fantastic path! I plan also a path in my garden this week, and still not decided what sort of path. This one is very natural and nice, but you have to "upgrade" it each year.

We like the natural look and using natural materials. The logs will last for a few years as they are mostly cherry which takes a while to rot down.

The chipped wood I get is mostly pine Katarina. I get it from a local sawmill. If you can find someone who sells wood suitable for using in log burning stoves they should be able to supply the cut logs for the edging. An alternative source for the chipped wood would be tree surgeons who cut down trees and mostly chip the whole lot. If it comes with lots of greenery in it, maybe they have been cutting down cupressus trees, that can be used on your path and will give a long lasting fragrance as you walk along.
