I have a Passion Flower...wonderful climber, so hardy, i have a wonderful
show each year.....Did you know the flower represents the cross that jesus
was crucified,on and the stamens are the great nails they bore into his hands & feet. Quite a story!!

A bit more than that too. The three bits in the middle are three loaves and the five are the five fishes and the many petals are the people they fed! Or so my mum said!

Another explanation I have been told is :
Centres round the petals - the 12 Apostles
The Fringe - The crown of thorns
The pistils & stamens - the wounds & the nails on the cross
The tendrils - the lash of the whip
Any more representations known at all . . . .

Thanks Megan - I had forgotten about the 12 apostles. I like the idea of the crown of thorns and nails - makes more sense with the passion motive!
