Results of my day off..

Most of the grass and weeds from the concrete gone and some large crevices left for some brave alpines or other tough cookies to inhabit when I find some. Just have to keep the other weeds at bay til that happens.. the price of having the patio as I want it is eternal vigilance, I expect.

Hypericum is out of its corner. The root had given up trying to get nourishment and moisture from whatever the dusty stuff was in the pot, and had headed straight down through the small drainage hole so I had to give it a good tug. I dug as deep a hole as I could in the border, beyond a few inches the ground was so hard. Just above that point I noticed several worms curled into balls, they seemed to have decided to “hole up” (pardon the pun) there until it rained. I put some old compost in the hole. Not sure it has much nourishment in it, but its what I’ve got. When I watered it in, I remembered that I hadn’t really pressed the compost down much, but I suppose it will be ok.

I also reduced the white buddleia to a stump with about six leaves left. Oops.

You have done a lot today, the Hypericum will be on it's way happily from now on, it is a perennial, therefore will die down and come back in the spring.

Michaella, my only worry is that my dog will pee on it and spoil it, he has already "watered" it once. I don't want to fence it round with chicken wire, but I might find something to make a low wall (he's only a small dog!)

Nana, it feels like so little! But I'm trying not to rush into things, it usually only ends with me getting frustrated or making a lot of beginner's mistakes and losing heart.

Having two dogs I know what you mean try a dash of tomato sauce on his dinner, apparently it affects their urine and they don`t like the smell left behind and therefore find somewhere else to go, I`m always replacing the grass in two areas of my lawns.
Don`t get discouraged, it takes time and we`ve all made plenty of mistakes along the way, thats how we learn.....

Oh, I can try that, he never really likes his food unless we flavour it with some human food anyway! Chilli is his favourite.
