We headed off to Exeter today to do some shopping. After this we decided to go on the 4 +mile trip to get some wood for our fire so we are well stocked up ready for when the snow comes? On the way out of Exeter there on the big island was the romany/traveller and his horse. He often comes and goes, you never know when he will turn up, but we all ways look out for him.I didnt go too close to his wagon because i saw the biggest dog you ever saw in the back window of his van :0(

Love the number plate.

Shopping done, firewood collected then some how we ended up heading across Dartmoor past the Warren Inn,where the fire has supposedly not gone out for years.

The view from the pub door

And as we were up there we visited Dartmeet where we thought we would put up the new bird table that Bob had made, the wire needs to stretch a bit yet

Here come’s our first visitor

My favourite bird, The long tail Tit, first there were two

Then four little beauties

It seems you had a profitable day. I'm pleased for you Sue :o)
I wonder what that traveller does to keep warm ... he can't light a fire in there can he :/ and his dog and horse ... poor things :o(
Nice to see the birds being cared for :o)

Lovely bird photos.I expect that, man, dog & horse are pretty hardy. The horse certainly has a thick coat.Perhaps man&dog have too?

Last year I was concerned about 2 carthorses out in the freeze-up when the owner has a stable. Her father is a farmer. He laughed at me. Later she told me horses keep warm by moving about. If they have to be kept inside when they are ill, where they cant move, they suffer from the cold, and have to be put outside again a.s.a.p.
We live and learn.
The Romany man probably has the dog on his bed to keep him warm !

The horses near me are cross Clydesdale and very well looked after, they have a field shelter that the use to keep out of the sun it seems
For wind and rain they turn their tails to the hedge so the wind is behind them

Lovely photo's of tits and finches, the longtails always arrive here as a group too
