planting strawberries

i have read in some gardening magazines that you must not plant strawberries where potatoes have grown in previous year why is this.

They can be affected by the same diseases, viral and fungal, but they are in different families. The strawberry is in the Roseacea whilst spuds are in the Solanacea :o)

That is true....they are in the same "family"....and could pass on "viruses"...
