My dad phoned me weeks ago to tell me that the torch would be going down London road in Bedford and passing the end of the road where they still live and I was born so we were invited to stay. Dad watched the last torch in 1948 with his grandad so today was a special day as he could watch it with his grandson. The rain was torrential at 10 oclock this morning but cleared in time for us to stroll down to watch it all go by.
Here are a few pics

The run up

Nice to see the police enjoying themselves and he was a happy police man :O))))

And this strange man on the other side of the road is my lovely dad!

My mum and Jamie (being a plonker!) by the Hazelwood Road sign…..My place of birth so I had to get that one in!

A good turnout but it’s a long road so lots of space

And here she comes !!!

Up close and she smiled at me

The motley crew standing in the middle of what is normally a very busy road
From left to right, my little mum, dad, Jamie and at the back Derek my Oh. I’m sure my mum and dad are both seventy eight now but in my head they are stuck on fifty, I ask every year on their birthdays but for some reason I can never remember :o)))))

We have all had a lovely very special weekend xxxx

Great pictures and memories for the whole family...your father must have been really pleased to have the younger generations with him! Who knows maybe one day your son will be doing the same :))

Great blog Annella, really special that your dad got to see it with his grandson. As others have said, something we probably wont see again.

I saw the torch relay in Sandwell. Not quite as enjoyable a day since I was working lol. Had to patrol the relay rout from Oldbury, through West Bromwich into Smethwick. Since its about 8 miles in total and it was really busy (plus closed road giving us issues) we may have missed the Smethwick bit, just about made it to the end of the route to see the torch go past. Ho hum, was a great atmosphere all along the route though, really nice to see. Last time we saw crowds like that in West Bromwich it was during the riots last year - not quite so nice.

My grandson was with his scout group at the gates at Burghley House when the torch came last week, nannie had the job of escorting him there on time, I wouldn`t have missed it even though it was raining most of the time, I think the torch had as many spectators as the queen did a few weeks back, my grandson was with me that day as well, good days to remember...
Lovely to see your family Annella..

Wellingborough didn't get much of a look in either, maybe because it was raining so hard as it went through town.
