I now have spell checker on GOY has it come with the new layout or is it because I’ve loaded Google Chrome on the recommendation of a fellow GOYer yesterday? I have to say I find it very useful wherever it has come from.

Hi where is it please, I am using Firefox and Safari.?

15 Oct, 2010

It must have come with Google Chrome then Dotty. Any mistakes are underlined in red automatically, a big plus for me as I am always looking words up :-))

15 Oct, 2010

Glad that helps you, Annella ...
I've had spellcheck on GoY for as long as I can remember...
I'm using Firefox...

The checking facility has just underlined "spellcheck", "Firefox" and "Annella" as being incorrect ! Lol.

I think it's really good TT and it happened because I had a moan about GOY being slow yesterday Lol :-))
It's not keen on spelling GOY either

15 Oct, 2010

Lol. and it doesn't like LOL or Lol .... :o)))

15 Oct, 2010

Blasted spellchecker - doesn't like a lot of Latin names either, so you wonder whether you've mispelt it, check and find you haven't... and it doesn't like mispelt either, maybe its misspelt... no doesn't like that either, oh to hell with it...

15 Oct, 2010

Misspelled ..that's what it likes... Lol..

15 Oct, 2010

It comes with Google Chrome Annella.
Try typing Google or google in - it'll tell you that it's wrong!

15 Oct, 2010

Misspelt is perfectly acceptable, not a mistake at all, as is 'learnt' which the spellchecker also dislikes, always wanting learned instead. I find spellcheckers hopeless myself, seems they have a limited vocabulary...

15 Oct, 2010

I have spellchecker on my site and I am using Safari.

15 Oct, 2010

Sometimes I have trouble because I am on American spelling. I must change it. It always objects to "colour', a word I use often on this site.

15 Oct, 2010

I do a fair bit of typing in Word - I remember it offering me 'thief' when I mis typed 'they've'...

15 Oct, 2010

The spellcheckers come with the browsers and highlight all your misspellings while your typing. Unfortunately they do not give you a list with the correct words to choose from, like some other software do. A good software for those using windows is Microsoft word. You simply highlight your text and then copy/paste into the word. It will automatically show all your misspellings and give a list with the correct words to use. After correction you highlight the text again and copy/paste back into your GOY page. This may sound a little complicated and time consuming, but it is very useful for people like me when English is their second language and some words are difficult and not very common.

Oh how dim can you be....dont answer that? so I do have it sorrrrry didnt know what to look for...... I have the red line thing, I expected something different, such as abc spell check at the bottom of the page lol
I usually check the spelling in the search engine box on the top right of my screen (Google usually) the red line was always coming up and as the words I had typed were correct I just ignored it. duh!!!

15 Oct, 2010

spell chequer ... it likes that :o))) lol

15 Oct, 2010

Hee hee, see what I mean? Its of limited use, but does at least pick out what MIGHT be mistakes - I've got grammar check, now that's a real laugh - doesn't like sentences longer than about 10 words...

15 Oct, 2010

I definitely cannot use spellchecker, I`d drive myself daft arguing with it, its bad enough seeing it on Dads setup, he has always had a problem with spelling, he asks us how to spell something, finds it different on spellcheck and one can end up having a right old dingdong, lol.....

15 Oct, 2010

dingdong ... ??? ... sorry, not an acceptable spelling... ;o)

15 Oct, 2010

It certainly has its limitations, Lincslass - I recall my son ringing me a few years back because he'd made a typo in his report and the spellchecker wanted to put "allot" - was that right he asked? And no, it wasn't - he'd typed "alot" when he meant "a lot", so if your spelling and grammar isn't great, you could certainly end up with something bad. I'll admit I told him off for using such an expression in a report anyway...

15 Oct, 2010

Just right click on the underlined word and it'll offer up the "correct" options - ie, for google it'll suggest goggle, or googley etc.

I've deleted Microsoft Office and Word and have made the switch to Open Office.

15 Oct, 2010

I just ignore the red line when I know I'm right but it's useful for the times I'm unsure :-)))

15 Oct, 2010

.......

15 Oct, 2010

annella .. or as spellcheck would advise...

15 Oct, 2010

TT I've just remembered I'm at home and don't have Google Chrome here!!! Apologies for any mistakes in the last half hour because I typed with confidence and didn't check...Lol

15 Oct, 2010

15 Oct, 2010

That's okay, Annella ...

15 Oct, 2010

Tell you something really annoying Scrabble, especially the American version, it allows the stupidest words and then will not accept one that you are absolutely certain is spelt correctly.....

15 Oct, 2010

15 Oct, 2010

Sanbaz, spellcheck as you type in Mozilla firefox - click on Tools at the top of the page, select Options at the bottom - this should take you to the General tab in a box - look at the 6th option (I think it is, anyway) says "spellcheck as I type" and tick that box.

16 Oct, 2010

Do believe me I have tried every browser available on the market including the ones you pay for and I do not find much difference. What does make the difference is the power of your computer and the speed of your internet connection. After experimenting for a long time, I have settled with Safari as my browser and with a mobile internet connection. It gives me the freedom to stay online anywhere I go with my laptop, call it the garden, my local park or the other end of the country.

16 Oct, 2010

thanx bamboo will go check it out ;o))

16 Oct, 2010

bamboo i checked that and its already ticked , so its not working for me ;o(

16 Oct, 2010

16 Oct, 2010

I missed out something, though if you've found the one that says check spelling as I type, then you found it anyway - its under Advanced Options, sixth one down, under the browser section.

16 Oct, 2010

yes thats the one i did bamboo, but havent a clue why it doesnt work, when on email the spell checker starts automatic, oh well just have to try a bit harder with big words

16 Oct, 2010
