If only veg and flowers grew as good as weeds. My wife Joan and myself have spent the whole week weeding the allotment . If anybody says allotments are a good way of providing food I say they are nothing but hard work but very rewarding , I can buy veg. In Aldi cheaper than growing it myself. It’s not as fresh mind and is free from pesticides. If you take into account your annual allotment rent, ours is £60 per year and the amount of work you put in .An allotment is a full time job. A lot of rubbish is being talked about allotments and growing your own food at the moment.
Before you say I’m lucky to have an allotment I waited 10 years for mine.

1pop i agree with you growing veg can be difficult when i have seen many alotments on my travels and many do look neglected.people have the idea that putting seeds down is all there is to it.but when reality hits the good life is removed from reality. weeding i have learnt to do it the easy way that is to hoe before you see any weeds every few days stopping them gerninating in the first place. you are right about veg being cheaper to buy,i now grow smaller crops of what we can eat and freeze, spring greens are a must because they will be expencive an alotment full size would be a handfull to me to me it is a pleasure i have what i can manage then i sit and look at it. coffee and a fag can,t beat it
