Think about the swallows and swifts

About this time of the year I sit on my allotment contemplating my navel “not really”. I keep a look out for the returning swifts and swallows. Sure enough on time this week I spotted them returning. I am really worried that spring is so late this year there will be no grubs midges and other food for them, it will be disastrous for these birds.

Swallows arrived there too, when the wind direction changed we opened the top door of the stable in readiness and here they are.
We seem to have some insects in the garden so hopefully they will be ok

lots of flies and midges here for them when they arrive, they have been seen around and about the area so hopefully we shall see them in the garden soon.

We don't always see swallows here but certainly haven't so far this year! I loe to see them swooping and then resting on the telephone wires!!!!

I used to say they arrived at Wicksteed Park Lake on May
12th, and they did, every year, on their way north. Can be seen swooping over the water feeding on the midges.

I spotted swallows(I think) flying along the river by my house yesterday. First time I've ever seen them there. What a lovely site.

I have seen swallows ~ in Buckinghamshire last sunday!

the only good thing i can think of about this late spring is that the lily beetles are not around yet [bet they will be soon though]

I love to see them and if they arrive this year I will be delighted, the reason being I DIDN'T see any last year, I like to watch them whirling around especially against a lovely blue background, something also lacking last year as we all know....

An old countryman once said to me " You can tell when they are Swifts because they dance about, in the sky."
