Autumn 2010 - Taking Shape

In the autumn after moving in, I did a lot to the shape & structure of the garden and began to get it under control. I have split it in to four areas…

Patio
I removed the grass next to the patio, and will eventually extend the paving across the full width of the garden. The overgrown planting on the fence (out of shot) has also been removed.

Garage Bed
Existing planting has been removed from this bed. After the picture was taken, the brick BBQ and overgrown fuschia were also removed.

Conservatory Bed
All of the existing planting was removed to let light back into the conservatory – sorry this picture is so blurry!

Shade Garden
The weeds & gravel have been removed from the shade garden (to the left), and I re-laid the stepping stones in the lawn to give a better shape.

This leaves the “back bed” which runs horizontal across the garden with the privet. This is a job for the future as I want to cut the hedge back and replace with fencing before beginning work, due to a nuisance dog in the house behind.

Making a difference already, will be good to see what plants you choose, I have two dogs but they are only a nuisance to me and then not often....

I'm going to take some more pictures later so you can see how far it's come again since this, there's a lot less bare soil now! Unfortunately the neighbours do not keep their dog under control, and it comes through the hedge in to our garden and is fairly aggressive. It really halted work throughout last summer as I was too afraid to go outside and enjoy my own garden.

Oh Vini, not nice, people like that make me cross, its very irresponsible and gives a bad name to the rest of us, to be scared in your own garden would be distressing for anyone...

Wow big difference there already. I'll look forward to seeing the next installment :)

Oh thats not good, being scared in your own garden. Some people are so irresponsible. shame to loose the hedge but really don't blame you for wanting a more secure garden there.
