Before and After, For Dan.

Thanks to your photos Dan, I have smartened up the edge of my bottom pond,at least the side that faces outwards.

Before the stone faced edging.

And after.

I need to remove the 2 Variegated Iris that are towards the middle of the pond. The Bog bean has just started to flower, so I include a photo.

I bought sufficient material to edge the top pond if I am careful, it is quite expensive I thought. To stick the edging around the bottom pond, I pumped some of water up through the frog fountain to the top, but did not allow it to return down the cascade. After completing the lower pond I was going to siphon the water to the lower pond to enable me to start on the top pond but it is pouring with rain now, which will refill it because the rain water from the conservatory roof goes into the lower pond. I will probably have to reduce the upper pond level by using it to water the garden, since the rain.
Quite pleased with the result but it was a messy job, or to put it another way, I got glue everywhere, on me, on the surrounding plants.

It looks brilliant! When I first bought mine it wasn't too expensive but last year I bought More for the bigger pond and it has easily doubled in Price! But it is brilliant for hiding the liner!

Dan, my ponds are all the rigid preformed fibreglass? type. I have had the top pond over 30 years.
Linclass, I have fallen in before, got a marker stick up the leg of my work trousers, went to move forward .....splosh ..... in I went.

I needed to top mine up today but the heavy rain has filled it up to the point where it's going out the overflow. I've not yet fallen in this one.

LOL, I can remember the first time I fell in ours, it was years ago when our bottom pond was the fishpond, it was a very bad winter, snow packed solid on the ground for weeks, we used to keep a football in the pond to stop it freezing over completely, I was trying to remove the ball to let some air in but had walked too far and slid down into the water, now that let the air in and thats a fact, when I glanced up my son and his girlfriend were watching from the window laughing their socks off, he's never let me forget that experience and I haven't either....

LLass, Rather like launching a ship? Stern first? At least your family could laugh about it. I heard some years ago of an Oap lady who fell into a shallow pond, face first and drowned, suffocated. No one around to help her.

Oh crumbs yes, when our grandaughter was born my son put heavy mesh over our ponds as well as netting even before she could walk, he said if anything ever happened he knew she'd be safe, we kept it on for over ten years because of course our grandson followed three years later and of course there were other little visitors in those days....

Done Dan, and so am I, exhausted, but it looks great, just need some more glue to stick a few loose pebbles areound the top rim. The black bird is throwing the soil into the pond where I have tidied it up.

17 May, 2016

The blackbirds do that here too! And moss! The weathers due to be bad for a few days so we'll all be able to have well deserved breaks :)
