Whilst most Tulipa species don't really do that well in a domestic garden where it is not easy to replicate the conditions they thrive on in the wild there are a few true species and some cultivated forms and hybrids that given the right growing conditions - well-drained soil in full sun - can be very rewarding subjects for the amateur to grow. A good species for naturalising and for patio pots and containers. Flowers become more red as they mature. Flowers April/May.
