Cabbage Derby Day is delicious boiled steamed or shredded raw into salads. This is an early ballhead summer cabbage with a good resistance against bolting. By growing your own Cabbage you get the fresh garden taste and sense of satisfaction but also genuine health benefits too - freshly picked vegetables are the highest for vitamin content.

Sow outdoors from mid March to end of May thinly in a prepared seedbed 13mm deep alternatively sow mid February in pots or trays under glass then transplant outdoors for earliest heads in June. Transplant when large enough to handle about 5 weeks from sowing into well-prepared soil in a sunny spot. Allow 38cm each way between plants planting firmly and water in. Compact plants allow closer spacings and less wasted outer leaves.Harvest about 60 days from transplanting. Later sowing from the end of May will produce quality heads to October.
