A day when shopping worked out well.

At 8 this morning it was raining heavily and the snow was still on the garden, stubbornly refusing to melt.

I had promised my 15yr old girl a trip into Hull city so we or more accurately she, could hit the shops. After a leisurely breakfast she suggested going to the market town of Beverley. I much prefer Beverley though less shops for her, but we decided to lunch out at a lovely Italian restaurant so off we set, in gloriuos sunshine. Typical!

It was 11am when we got in the car and she suggested we look at the animals in the pet centre [also a garden centre mmmmmm looking promising]. Well my hopes were well and truely raised. Benches of hellebores all at £2.49, all crying out to me. The sun came out and lit up this dark red one lurking towards the back. Un named but I really dont mind

Then lots of looking, pulling out, checking for buds and finally this one, a semi double.

We then loooked at the pet animals they sell before setting off round the back roads to Beverley. We passed another gc that used to be seasonal but they now are a tropical fish centre too. Well for plants they do tend to be seasonal but what bargains to be had.

77 dutch iris [mixed] 20 Gladiolus byzantine, 5 Iris buccarica and 7 Allium nigrum. You had to fill a bowl and the cost? £1

Viola coconut duet reduced to £1

Dicentra spectabilis alba and Fillependula all £1 each. pots are weedy but they will clean up and become part of my stock for my charity sale in the spring.

Then off for lunch, yummy rissotto.

Oh the shopping , well if you are interested, for her a watch [a proper grown up one], a new school bag, a novel and a T shirt. For me a cheap pair of jeans. Cost me more than my plants haha.

That's the reward of virtue for taking your daughter shopping! What a great lot of bargains.

I will have a happy morning potting these up, but its finding space for them in the already busy greenhouse.

I just cant resist a bargain and as I know many of these will be good sellers at the village garden mart in May it makes sense. I always dontate at least 50% to a local hospice but all of these will go 100% as they were only pence.

I wonder if daughter wants to go shopping again? :o)

Super bargains SBG, my kind of shopping:)
I love Beverly some super secondhand shops (I am addicted to them :0) Would you say what the name of the restaurant was? ...I'd love to try it next time I'm there.
Where are you going next??

yes Toria was very happy with her [my] purchases. I spent a good 2hrs potting bulbs and then started planting a few pots into the new space in the border:o)

The restaurant is Lucia's, down an alley opposite the Beaver Pub. There is a window display of antiques on its corner Waddy. Beverely is a smashing little market town.

Not sure where we will go next, maybe same places :o)
