Not really surprising as the weather hasn't been all that cold - yet. The long range forecast was for a very cold winter so experience suggests that it will be quite mild in fact.

Yes, talk about fooled us this year - the long range forecast had me battened down for a hard winter by October - and its been so ridiculously mild, my geraniums and lobelia are still in flower on the balcony! Still, we're not through January and February yet, and the first week of January is very often mild and windy...

Wind and rain we have had loads of recently in Worcester, but altogether the winter so far has been mild. I have been reminded of December 2006 when I was mowing lawns on christmas eve!! I am currently constantly thinking ... do I prune now or wait for usual pruning times? If I prune roses etc now, will we have a sudden freeze?! Anyway ... decided to go ahead and do what I normally do for that time of year and prune fruit trees in next few weeks and roses in early march! I will be preparing veg plot for potato seed next week - chitting is waste of time, so I plant seed straight out and wait for weather to do its stuff and get lots of early melt-in-the-mouth spuds - the rest just get bigger!!
