Most likely not gardening related (except for the true die hards :) ), but was wondering what GoYers are planning to bring the New Year in.

Happy New Year LilC. We watch the fire works on TV and raise our glasses to absent friend and family.

Nothing - I long ago reserved the right to totally ignore New Year's Eve, probably when I was round about 45 I think. Got fed up with people being sick over my shoes, and all the other behaviour that goes along with drunk people, I'm afraid - I don't really drink, and boy, do you notice how silly people are when they do... A celebration's okay if its with friends when you're older, but otherwise, it's a younger persons' night really. I do recall some great New Year's Eves when I was in my twenties and thirties though... and I probably will have a small glass of something around midnight, mostly in gratitude that Christmas is over once again for another year, it's January, and we're on the downhill run to spring, lol! Have a good one, everybody.

I'm with Bamboo, nothing - Bulba and I will be in bed and fast asleep long before midnight.

We will be at home with my son and his girlfriend and make a fondue....no booze with us either...maybe a sip of cheap aldi plonk at midnight though....and then to bed by 1.00 am.

We are with Bamboo on this, ignored New Year for 40 odd years and not going to begin now.
Have a good one whatever you do.

Used to spend New Years hiding under the beds, due to all of the rednecks firing guns into the air around here. It has gradually gotten better since the "Shannon Law" passed, and we now feel freer to relax and party--under a roof!! : /

Happy New Year's, everyone! *<: D

Nice idea Tulsalady.
Us, we do nothing except perhaps notice when the church bells ring. I fear I have lost any hope that next year is going to be any better than last...Welcome to the Miserable Old Gits club!

We used to do what Tulsalady does years ago,..go outside and have drinks with friends etc, but somehow that has stopped, friends moved away etc etc, a real pity, and now every body just stays in their own home. This year we intended to go down to the bungalow and have a BBQ, but when I saw the weather forecast we thought better of it...and at the moment...21.56...our time it is pouring with rain.

Thanks for sharing everyone!
I definitely think the party till you puke is more of a youngsters thing....been there, done that.
Thankfully now only drink bc I like wine, not to get drunk.
We usually have a lovely seafood dinner with raw vegetables, fresh bread and wine. Then it's a nice spell in the hot tub talking about the year past. Not such happy conversations the last couple of years, but we can always hope, right?
It must be very close for most of you now, so again, wishing you all the best for 2012!!!

In our younger days we always used to go to a Fancy Dress party ... I've been a Cowgirl/Nun/American Football player/Vampire over the years ... but these days we're more likely to be asleep before midnight ... only to be awakened by the celebratory fireworks going off at midnight for who knows how long! ... Oh dear, I do sound like a 'Grumpy old woman!' ... happy new year one and all even though it's only 21.18 hours now! ... :o)

I may see the new year in with a glass of Bailey's and a kiss for my old man, but like the majority on here, could easily be in bed and woken by fireworks at midnight.

I stayed up and watched the fireworks on telly - good job I did, the world round here erupted at midnight - I live on the top floor, and the sky was absolutely full of fireworks going off all over Ealing. I recall when I was a kid, the neighbours would appear in the streets and bang dustbin lids at midnight, in tune with the boats on the Thames sounding their horns... poorer times, obviously, lol!
I had a text from my sister which said "Is it just me, or are others thoroughly sick of Xmas and New Year...". Talk about preach to the converted - every bit of tinsel was summarily removed from my home by Thursday, never mind waiting for New Year. I am become Mrs. Bah Humbug for sure... thank heavens its all over, I feel joyful about that, lol.
