Chanel no5...

Ha ha, not sure that's what Pimpernel had in mind, Grannyb - smells like cats wee on me anyway, that Chanel. I'm definitely a lavender aficionado... but I once had a pot pourri refresher oil called Victorian Kitchen (can't find it now) and I loved the smell of that...

Just thought about another smell I like - driving along in autumn on a sunny day with the windows closed, with a carful of pansies from the garden centre - amazingly, they smell fab in a warm, enclosed space, and you never notice it outside.

Perovskia has a lovely fragrance, i once worked for a dear old lady, she was 93, and was a right character and very witty, she would hobble round the grounds at the vicarage, telling me some interesting tales, sometimes she would plunge her hands into the lavender and put her hands to her face to smell the scent with a big smile on her face, she told me that if you feel stressed, tired, fed up then by doing this makes you feel so much better, i think she was right it does seem to have a calming affect, Dorothy lived untill she was 101.

Yep, lavender is known as a relaxant - I have a lavender scented microwaveable hot pad for aching shoulders, etc. and it came with a bottle of lavender oil for refreshing it.
I like the smell of rosemary too, but unfortunately, it always makes me hungry because it reminds me of roast lamb...

I like the smell of lavender as I brush past it, new mown grass and roses. But best of all I love the smell of an English harvest.

I too like the smell of freshly cut grass, lavender...they seem to be a lot of people favorites...also the smell of the country side in the early morning..realy its just fresh air but it´s wonderful

I love the smell in the garden on a very early summer’s morning on a day when the Philadelphus, is in flower. I also love mid winter in the garden when you can smell the, Viburnum x bodnantense 'Dawn, Mahonia, Sarcococca, Honeysuckle and any other winter perfumed shrubs that are in flower. If I could only have one it would be the Sarcococca one small bunch indoor perfumes the room.

Viburnum x burkwoodii 'Mohawk' an American hybrid is my favourite, followed by sweet peas. The powdery scent from dwarf citrus trees is superb but the trees themselves tend to be dissapointing.

Freesia wafting through the house from the garden or you catch it as you leave the house if wonderful.

Running your hand through Lavender and giving it a good sniff.

I love the smell of good garden earth, the smell of woodlands and the smell from pine trees.

Driving through California was great, the perfume of Orange groves, the aroma of millions of pine trees in the hot air mixed with fresh ocean breezes - paradise.

I love rosemary, lavender, newly mown grass and nicotiana, but I have to agree with Grannyb, Chanel No5 is the very best. Nearly forgot, I love the smell of WD40 (weird or what?)

7 Sep, 2011

yeah, weird but not abnormal for GoYers.

7 Sep, 2011

Oh, Anns your liking for WD40 reminded me - I love the smell of freshly applied creosote..

I had almost forgot creosote...Hardly seems to get used now.

And we worry about the younger generation glue sniffing.

I like Jeyes Fluid, good job as I use it in the dog run a lot, lol.... Nicotiana, Evening Primrose,Lavender, freshly cut grass and even the smell when I`m turning my compost but my all time favourite has to be my Honeysuckle on a lovely June evening

Gosh, I HATE Jeyes fluid! All the other smells are lovely, but a bluebell wood takes a lot of beating.

7 Sep, 2011

Oh yes Steragram, I forgot the bluebells..

Yuk, Jeyes fluid, don't like that, funny because i do have a liking for creosote - your glue sniffing comment made me laugh Grannyb, but glue actually is horrible, makes your eyes water. And i hasten to add I only know that from using it to glue things together, not from recreational reasons, lol!

I quite like creosote and tar too, but they aren't up there with the favourites.

How do I say thanks?
